Chief Executive of The Rugby League World Cup 2021
Jon Dutton’s career spans over 25 years in sport, including the PGA European Golf Tour, the Manchester FA, the Rugby Football League, Rugby League World Cup 2013, Tour de France Grand Depart in 2014, Rugby League Four Nations tournament in 2016 and the 2017 Rugby League World Cup in Australia, New Zealand and Papua New Guinea. With such a pedigree, it’s no surprise that he was, therefore, the obvious choice when tasked with heading up and delivering the biggest and best ever Rugby League World Cup 2021, here in the UK.
As Chief Executive of the Rugby League World Cup 2021, a world class purpose driven tournament, his aim is to create inspirational moments that excite, engage and leave a lasting legacy, alongside driving social impact and promoting inclusivity via the medium of a mega sports event. He commenced his role in February 2018 leaving his post as RFL Director of Projects & People. He has been involved in the project since the inception in late 2015 having successfully led the bid for the tournament including a £25m funding award from HM Government.
Jon is a member of UK Sport Major Events Panel, a specialist advisory body. Its main purpose is to represent the interests of UK Sport by making major event investment recommendations to the UK Sport Board.
Jon will be speaking on how he and his team are managing the challenges brought about by the pandemic to deliver this spectacular tournament, alongside Keith Senior, Retired Professional Rugby League player, now Community & Welfare Manager at Rugby League Cares and Mental Fitness Programme Facilitator for the Rugby League World Cup 2021.
